I don't think amiibo scalping is that big a deal. Scalping goes on everywhere, not just in the world of figurines. The demand is there, and those who buy a bunch of them with the intention of selling them for more of a profit is natural. If anything, blame Nintendo for not making enough to keep up with demand.

  • They should have anticipated them being popular and made enough to keep up with demand. There should also have been at LEAST a full month between waves, so each one gets sufficient shelf time and more people have the chance to get the ones they want before the next wave arrives.

  • I don't like the thought of amiibo cards AT ALL. You just know that Nintendo fans will buy them anyway, and if they show there's demand for them, a precedent will be set Nintendo can make a few figurine amiibo, wait for them to sell out, and replace them with cheap cards.

  • The biggest pondering I've had with this is about how much would the cards even cost? They can't possibly expect people to but them at the figurine price range...

  • I assume amiibo cards would be much cheaper. And the Nintendo rep on reddit said they were planning to release them completely independent of the amiibo shortages (as a portable option).

  • The entire article was taken down... "Man Spends 35K on Various Amiibo Figures" This is then followed by a picture the guy who spent the 35K took - 3 full boxes of Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Marth amiibo, while he give a very rude gesture with his hand towards the camera.

  • I tried looking through the internet for a good 15 minutes for anything else on this... I managed to bring up a quote from the interview with this guy. "This isn’t the only reason though call this a vengeance against the people who ridiculed me, insulted me, and are fans of stuff I hate." In a nutshell, he hates amiibo. And Nintendo in general. He just does this to make it difficult for others.

  • I find this when doing research for a blog: http://www.destructoid.com/man-hate-buys-rosalina-luma-amiibo-in-bulk-so-fans-can-t-have-them-285999.phtml He doesn't hate Nintendo in general, just Rosalina. He's a pitiable waste of flesh, but he's not a scalper. He's basically a grinch, and an outlier in the economy.

  • Different guy. Although, I've seen him as well.

    Yeahs0
  • Wait, never mind. Same guy.
