Can you use Thief to steal items from a Trainer's pokemon? Ex. Using Theif to steal Steven's Metagrossite?

    Nope. That would be broken. You can steal Heart Scales from Luvdisc and Other items from wild pokemon.

    Actually you can EXCEPT when it's a megastone. Thief was actually the original way to obtain quite a few items in RSE.

    I am pretty sure, but stealing a mega stone requires the Pokémon holding it not to mega evolve. The AI mega evolves as soon as possible in most situations, so this makes it impossible for you to be able to obtain mega stones by theif.
