    As long as it has been less than a year since he had the system, he is still technically under warranty, since there's absoluteley no way to prove he used psaves, since it works directly on the cart. Also, psaves wouldn't cause an issue like that, it's just a coincidence that the screen stopped working. He should definitely try to send it in for repairs if his warranty period hasn't expired yet.

    Did he turn on auto-backups or do any manual backups before he had to restart his game? If he did, then he can always restore his save to an earlier one before he needed to restart the game, and everyhing will be fine with his save.

    Ask him if he did. If that's the case, he can get back his old save as if nothing happened.
