    nah, it's not broken, my friend ;) but yeah, it's so platinumgames to make the whole mechanics a mistery... and i know, it's frustrating! so what u need to do, is buy a skill called bat... bat... shoot, i forgot >_< it's on the gates of hell -> techniques. let u turn into bats to avoid damage. now u could dodge any attacks even midway combo ;)
