MissingNo.(Short for missing number)was supposed to be a filler for the rest of the pokemon as in the original red and blue there were some pokemon added then taken out for the next game(Silver,Gold,Crystal) so MissingNo. wasn't really a "Pokemon" just a filler for the Missing Numbers hence it's name "MissingNo."

Basically what ruth said. It'sa filler for the 152-190 pokémon that were supposed to be in it, but they took out the 39 pokemon. They originally had 255 pokemon planned, but they didn't add in the rest. That's why when you get Miss.No. it messes up your game because your catching a glitch or error.

I think that MissingNo. was supposed to be a Pre-Evolution to Kangaskhan, and it would be a type of girl Cubone! Because you know the two Nidorans, well, they have the same name but evolve into different Pokémon! The reason I think this is because when you level-up MissingNo., it evolves into Khangaskhan, and only Khangaskhan! Some of you said that MissingNo. is a filter for the Deleted Pokémon...

I think it's only a filter for Baby Kangaskhan! Cubone will have 2 Genders, Boy:That evolves into Marowak, and Girl:That evolves into Kangaskhan! But hey, that's, Just A Theory... A GAME Theory!
