    1 is definitely much harder than 2. I recomend unlocking the immortal marionette accessory if you find things too rough early on. the auto dodge it has is a life saver. You get it simply by beating the game on very easy or easy. It can then be bought at the gates of hell.

    Yeah I actually played Bayonetta 1 on normal difficulty before playing the second one on third climax (hard mode) and I noticed how much more difficult the first one was. I believe that the first one was more challenging because of the scenarios where you were forced to fight in, while Bayonetta 2 is much more fair, giving you more stable stages to fight in.

    It's not just that. Enemy damage is multiplied to a much more punishing level in 1. It gets even worse on the higher difficulties. In 1, later game enemies are introduced much earlier on hard and higher. 2 doesn't do it until infinite climax. On the plus side, Bayonetta 1 had more high damage ranged weapons to work with. Bayonetta 2 has hardly any.
