I don't get it. There are people who treat Melee like the best Smash ever. Then there are people who treat it like it never existed. (Along with Smash 64...) What's up with that?

  • Casual players treat it like it never existe. Competitive player worship Melee.

  • And then there are people who've played every single one, like me.

  • Good to know some of us appreciate the series as a whole!

  • The people who deify Melee are sort of akin to the Genwunners of the Pokemon franchise. They both like to look at the series through Nostalgic Fanboy goggles

  • Wouldn't they be the polar opposite of 'Genwunners'?

  • well I appriciate it as a whole and im casual and competitive

  • You learn to love every little obscure detail in Nintendo's history when you play Super Smash Bros., even if there are still a few gaps. (I blame hardware limitations.)

  • I like all. I've played the very first smash bros when I was a little kid, and played every next one from release date. Smash bros is my childhood. I tend support the newest version though. I am not a Melee extremist, though I love their competitive attitude on a Nintendo fighting game, rather than MLG call of duty/halo or something

  • People use melee as the competitive smash game. personally I love smash 4 more than melee, and that's probably just because of the mass of good characters I like. I never consult tiers before picking a character I want to use, I just learn them and go.

  • I don't care for those '360 no-scopes' either. (I've also had my fair share of sniper deaths on Black Ops ][)

  • I like the way Dawn thinks. :D

  • Well thanks. I just have an inability to play a way other than how I want to. In games I'll play whatever style, character, deck, etc. I want to, even if it means someone is going to win because of something more ridiculous or unbalanced

  • The fast pace and speed and wavedashing and extremely large skill gap is the nature of melee that competitive players love. I've never played competitive melee, because I was like 8 years old back then, but I admire the hype and energy people get off of it.

  • I've only played Brawl and Sm4sh. I tried SSB64 through... Other means, but never Meelee.

  • Melee was my first Smash bros. but this one is my favorite because of all the characters, mechanics, and overall fun. I find it a little sad that people are so split on the games and demand so much of the game.

  • Besides Melee's mechanics were a little broken. You had to exploit the game in order to really get good.

  • This is one of the reasons I kind of dislike the competitive scene. They're so cruel to everyone who isn't good at Melee that they could potentially scare away any newcomers wanting to get into the series. Heck, they even act this way to people who like Brawl! Do you want more people to get into Smash or not?
