What does Shield + Down do? It looks like a dodge without rolling. Any advantages to this move?

  • seriously? you dont know?! someone runs in to dash attack you, quick dodge in plade, and then BAM, you punch them/grab them back. essentially a delayed counter move that doesnt require you to change directions twice or roll twice. havent you ever wanted to air dodge on the ground or without jumping?!

  • It's called a spot dodge. It helps to avoid grabs and attacks, where as you may roll into attacks.

  • find it helps spare shield energy to dodge projectile spammers fire when closing altered with the other dodges.

  • It's a sidestep dodge You can use it to avoid grabs, fast projectiles (like Link's bow), dash attacks (SPECIALLY FOX'S!), or if you're fast n timed enough, you can even dodge trapping Final Smashes! this works exactly the same airborne but you just have to press the shield button to do it, rather than shield + down

  • I highly recommed to inmediately using it when you're helpless falling to where an opponent is, you can counterattack

  • Erik: Serious post. What's the problem? Everyone else: Thanks for the tips! 2nd day playing (first Smash game owned) and trying to get my dodge mechanics up to par. CPU lv9 still kicking my A over 50% of the time.

  • dude sometimes its easier to just, you know, dodge normally, like, move your a** out of the way!

  • Dodges are important so practice is good. However after you're at the point where you can beat CPU's the majority of the time, try practicing with people willing to lend a hand. CPU's can only give so much practice, albeit good. Human players behave much differently from them.
