Question

Do you suppose they said "spirit" instead of "demon" to avoid possible religious problems? I'm not really sure how to word it otherwise... "Oni Link" is the Japanese equivalent term for the English title "Fierce Deity" and "oni" can be translated as "demon." Spirit works as a translation too, but I've always thought of him as "Fierce Deity," "Oni Link," or "Demon Link" and never "Spirit Link."

    You got it. Same reason they took out Islamic prayer songs from the Fire Temple in the original version of Ocarina of Time. The Japanese simpy have a different attitude towards deities, explaining the constantly recurring theme of deicide in Japanese games and anime, i.e. Final Fantasy games, Dragon's Dogma, Xenogears, Shin Megami Tensei, Full Metal Alchemist, Bleach, Code Geass, etc....

    @Matt Ah, yes "god" would be a good term too. Much more fitting. @Ian I prefer the attitude that eastern cultures have towards deities. They don't make them seems so distant. Now that I'm thinking about it, many of my favorite anime series involve concepts that would otherwise be considered "unapproachable." My top two favorite anime series are Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Code Geass.

    Actual one actually that's a myth. 1.1 copies of OoT were produced alongside 1.0 - the version with the chanting. Idea is they anticipated complaints, but to say it WAS complaints is wrong.
