Have you guys heard about what nintendo is doing to people like pewdiepie who have "lets play" youtube channels? Nintendo made an attempt to get with the times last month by instituting new Youtube policies regarding the monetization of their videos. They had originally planned a "we're taking all of your money," idea where anybody who made a Let's Play video for any nintendo game and...

  • put it on youtube, would have to give all monetary gained from the video to nintendo as a new form of revenue. Youtube personalities like pewdiepie, jim sterling, and totalbiscuit spoke out against it and explained that in the long run, Let's Play's are actually free advertising for any nintendo games. Now Nintendo came up with a new policy that's even worse than the original and doesn't...

  • include any of the feedback from the youtube personalities. The biggest problem with the 1st policy was that nintendo wanted you to register your channel of lelts play videos and they'll collect all the money from it... including videos of games that aren't even their's.

  • Now what they want to do is make you register your youtube channel and only make videos of "games on an approved list." So basically, you'll only be allowed to make videos on specific games that nintendo picked and only those. nintendo will get paid straight from youtube, and then nintendo will pay you. SMH

  • The worst part of it is the games that AREN'T on the "approved games list". Pokemon, Super Smash Bros., Legend of Zelda, Xenoblade Chronicles, Monster Hunter, and Mariokart are all on the naughty list of games that are "forbidden to make a Let's Play

  • I know. And I understand where the let's players are coming from. But, realize that what they are doing violates the terms of use that they had to agree to when they use Nintendo products. It doesn't matter if it is free advertising. You signed a contract with Nintendo and they have every right to do what they did as set for by the contract that all of us users had to agree to to use theirproducts

  • I have an app that tells me all about news stories in the gaming world. I came across an article about and knew everybody on miiverse deserves to know what's going on. Spread the word if you can. I don't play all games so I can't post on all communities.

  • Nope. That's why there was the whole issue around it. That and censoring which games are allowed to be showed on videos.

  • I thought the issue was about Nintendo taking the revenue these LEE'S gains from using Nintendo' products, which Nintendo had every right to do. Hmm... If what you say is the case, then that is taking it a bit too far...
