    Funny thing, I actually heard something similar on Bulbapedia. Apparently there's this theory that humans and Pokémon started out the same, but took different evolutionary paths. In other words, they're us. Or rather, we're them.

    Probably did, if the theory is true. In fact, I think that a number of Pokémon would've looked cool as people. Gardevoir, for example.
