    The game is a vertical danmaku shooter (think of space invader) made by a singular man named ZUN. The story varies through the game, but generally follows the same pattern: Some girl is causing an incident in the location the games take place (Gensokyo) so the designated heroine you choose to play as resolves the problem while beating up helpless characters and enemies along the way.

    I really need to play that mother game someday~ Gensokyo is connected to modern day Japan, but restricts access of entering because of the Great Hakurei Barrier controlled by the main protagonist, shrine maiden Hakurei Reimu. There are many sections of Gensokyo traveled to in the games such as the Scarlet Devil Mansion, Makai, Hakugyokurou, Eientei, and the Moriya Shrine, to name a few places.

    Gensokyo hosts a wide variety of species you see in the games. The most common one you notice are youkai and humans and fairies, yet there are plenty more such as ghosts, hermits, vampires, gods, tengu, demons, and even aliens, to name a few. They usually live in certain locations depending on their species, but that's not always the case. For example, vampires mainly live at the SDM and demons

    Live in makai, yet at the Moriya shrine gods and humans live side by side. Most of the time when there isn't an incident everyone is very peaceful and well mannered towards each other, but when there is one all he'll breaks loose (sometimes literally) and lil reimu will kill anything that moves.
