    I realized that this timer is actually not exactly ten seconds. After failing with spot on stop-watches I did it by... um... I'll say memory of the length of time between the ticking sounds, then counting.

    Yeah that's what I did. Basically I counted to 10 based on the ticks and went slightly sooner on 10 with later tries. Took about 7 or so attempts.
