    When simply chatting and not really being in character or RPing, you use parathesis(……) when you want to to use actions, use **, like *Yenfay draws his sword and strikes the brigand* when you're showing that you're character is thinking, you use {…} like {Hmm, I wonder if I should go back} and finally use these whenever you're controlling an npc, liek a villager like this: [sir, We need help!]
