Can someone give this noob hunter some inventory tips? What do I do with all the random bugs, herbs, and what not? Mostly weapon upgrades, or field items? Thanks!

  • Some bugs can be combined with other objects and make really useful items, other bugs can be combined to make things you can buy at a store. Herbs are very useful when making things like potions, but I believe they have other uses too. As for weapons, keep the weapons you are comfortable with. Upgrading depends on the weapon you choose, you'll need different material.

  • When it comes to field items, you normally can't take them back with you. You'll know when something is a field item when you look at your inventory(on a quest or so) and the item description tells you so in yellow(?) words. When you are out in the field, whatever you put in your field pouch is automatically sent to your item box. I'm not a master, and I'm unsure of what exactly you need, but

  • I've been playing MH since Tri on the Wii. I hope you enjoy this game! If you need anything else, just ask, I'll try my best to offer help. Sorry if my advice is confusing. Again, I'm not 100% sure of what you are asking or referring to.

  • If you are a Gunner, try mixing plants and bugs with huskberries and other ammo like objects to create new ammo so you'll know how to make it later. If you are a Blademaster, some bugs may be useful in upgrading/creating weapons in the future, so keep whatever you have in your box. For general use, combine the bugs and plants with random objects to see what you can make for future reference.

  • Sticking with blades for now. I've got some item pouch mysteries: screamer sac, sleep herbs, sticky sap.. haven't used any 11 hours in. Having a blast though ;)

  • When in doubt, use the combo list. herb and blue mushroom. potion and honey. Otherwise, save room for heals and other items, traps etc. I dont think bugs are really usefull in the feild. Sorry for being vauge. I'm unshure what items you are curious about specificly.

  • Just re-read comment. screamer sac is used to make a noise based bomb (forgot name). sleep herb is used to make traqulizer bombs. sticky sap is for paintballs. Any more questions?

  • i think its just the learnung curve. now I'm constantly looking for items to combine. Feel like there should be a field guide :)

  • A field guide would definitely be useful for newer players. Like Justin said, bugs normally aren't useful when on the field, they're better for combining at your house. Herbs are great for making potions when you need more, so if you're struggling with a monster and you're out of recovery items, take the time to make potions. If you use the Sword & Shield, you can use items while blocking too.

  • No kidding! For example I have tons of Sap but haven't found its counterpart yet. And what can combine with the trap tool? There's just sooo much ;)

  • Trap tools can be combined with Thunderbugs and nets. Nets can be made from combining a Spider Web and Ivy I believe. If you look at your combine list, it'll tell you what can be combined, but it doesn't tell you what you get until you make the combination to see for yourself, then you can later use it as a reference. I think it's good they at least give you some sort of hint.

  • Thanks Cj, everyone has been a big help. Combining at the box has been very worthwhile. Some things in MH aren't obvious to the beginner.
