Miiverse debating 101 1. If the person you are debating with dismisses your argument, repeat it again. They will surely understand it the second time. 2. If the person you are debating with continues to refute your arguments with logical points, then by all means block him. 3. If the person you are debating with drops out of the debate, then it automatically means you won.

  • Your better off not arguing with people like that. They're the kind of people who won't accept anyone elses viewpoint but their own.

  • If I remember correctly, he was spamming my posts and I blocked him, then he made a post vilifying me, so I talked it out for a while. Bad idea

  • Which is why I dislike the "some post I saw" concept. Often, this is done by taking the original person's point out of context and using to ridicule him to others. Its petty and cowardly.

    Yeahs1
  • And then blocking said person so they can't defend themselves is just pathetic

    Yeahs1
  • Though you could block him for slander, but I'm not sure if that can be done. Still, the moment they block is when they lose the debate. Them thinking they won is just a delusion. We are better than that.

  • 4. When the person your arguing stops commenting, go through their profile and comment on their posts to re start the argument!

    Yeahs1
  • I had something like that happen to me once. Last year, a user and I were having a serious debate, I eventually grew frustrated so I stopped commenting. I then made a new post asking a question similar to the one from the debate. Then the other guy made a post telling me that I should answer him. I eventually told him I had no obligation to answer him.

  • I had a simmilar situation, but this was on google+

    Yeahs1
  • Fortunately this can be stopped through blocking but as Stephen said, it doesn't prevent them from taking one's posts, taking them out of context and then posting them to others as a way to mock us. It happens a LOT in this site

    Yeahs1
  • You know idea.

    Yeahs1
  • The question becomes this: Is there an effective way to get your point across without the other person resorting to said blocking tactics & hurtful remarks?

    Yeahs1
  • IT depends on the individual. The more stubborn people won't compromise, they will continue until you either admit they're right or until you drop out.

    Yeahs0
  • Fair enough. I was just trying to create a middle ground. I guess there are those that refuse to yield & we have to deal with it the best we can.

    Yeahs1
  • Was even worse about those types of people is that sometimes they get upset whenever people question their opinions and say that we are being mean.

    Yeahs0
  • That, to me, pretty much describes social media in a nutshell. You post an opinion, then watch the flame wars erupt because they believe only their opinions matter.

    Yeahs1
  • The only thing that keeps Miiverse rational and (fairly) civil is the strict moderation. Who knows how crazy this place would get if the mods were more lenient. As much as we dislike them from time to time, the mods are what's keeping this place together.

    Yeahs0
  • Makes me wonder how social media came to be in the first place. Many forums put a lid on nasty flame wars(like Miiverse), but there are others that are, shall I say, "citezn" types that are not moderated that can really get annoying to deal with.

    Yeahs1
  • You mean like 4chan? Because the vitriol that goes on that site puts anything Miiverse can produce to shame.

    Yeahs0
  • I guess you're right. We just need to decide what's best as far as social media without resorting to trolls & all that nonsense.

    Yeahs1
  • For the most part, I try to avoid this by just debating with the people who I know or who seem rational. Choosing to debate with people who seem highly stubborn is just asking for trouble.
