So... is it just me or are bowguns in general terrible? Every once in a while I try to use one and it just seems extremely underpowered whether it's heavy or light. It takes a lot of time and a LOT of ammo to take down even the weakest monsters. I love bows and I wish I could say the same of bowguns, but they just seem useless to me. Does anybody want to defend them?

  • Bowguns are actually really useful. I am terrible with Bowguns but they have their uses. Light Bowguns are used to hit weak spots and deal elemental damage. Light Bowguns are also used to deal status effects towards monsters. Heavy Bowguns are pure attack power. They deal a lot more damage than the Light Bowgun but is much slower. You're better off spamming bullets with the Heavy Bowgun.

I like bows and lbg in group hunts. It makes hunting more enjoyable because you aren't hitting or getting hit by fellow hunters. Also when you are effective, you become an asset to your team. You can provide ranged almost constant damage and support. I dont use hbg much since they are slow. In general it does take longer to kill something with range weapons.

  • At this point I only play solo, so I guess I'll give them another shot when I tackle multiplayer. Thanks for the input.

  • @Meg, Actually, I killed the Khezu with my Bow faster than I did with my Gunlance. I guess it depends on the monster.

  • Fighting Khezu with a bow is like taking candy from a baby. You almost feel bad, but free candy.
