    Try to go for full armor sets, mixing different pieces is a bad idea. Don't be afraid to look things up online, the game doesn't really tell you where to find certain materials. Use Kiranico for that. If you want to learn how to use your weapon, look up Gaijin hunter on youtube, he makes really good weapon tutorials. (it might be hard to follow if you're new to the series though)

    Why is mixing armor bad? I am also new to MH and currently have completely mixed armor, so i am curious.

    Mixed armor sets only get really good by the late game, and even then, you need an online armor generator or pad and pen to do all the math for the skills you want. Early mixed sets won't get you any armor skills.
