Observations on the use of great balls. When preparing to go after one of the pokemon from the expert stages I always make sure that I save enough coin for the boosts I plan on using plus enough extra for about 3 great ball attemps. (2500 each) After a miss with a pokeball it gives a chance to buy a great ball, if that misses often it offers a 2nd, then maybe a 3rd, I may have seen a 4th once.
03/25/2015 6:11 PM ·Spoilers
I will normally not bother with great balls on normal stages, easier to play again for another capture attempt, or if my base capture odds were too low. (not worth doubling 1 to 12%ish I'd say)
03/25/2015 11:19 PM ·Spoilers
Note on time extension boost. On timed EX stages catch rate after the battle is normally 1% plus and an amount usually corresponding to percentage of start time remaining, often by 3 second increments (first increase not applied until 3 sec left rechead, 2nd at 6 sec, etc.) If extra time is puchased for a level, once beaten that time is deducted from remaining time before catch rate calculation.

120 is tough. Hoard coins, and go with Disruption and Mega Start. That's how I beat it.
03/26/2015 9:05 PM ·Spoilers
I got Mewtwo! Had only a 34% capture rate. I was prepared to use a Great ball, if necessary.
03/26/2015 10:30 PM ·Spoilers
Congratulations! Yeah I think that is what I did for 120 too, it might have been one of the stages I got really close on and burned a gem for a few more moves to finish off. I have enough coin now for a go at Mewtwo, but just got home and don't know if I feel upto it tonight, work was draining. Hope you are feeling better Marek.
03/27/2015 6:52 AM ·Spoilers
Now that I think of it, I was a bit surprised that those new stages didn't include a mega and didn't even award a jewel once you completed the last of them (Milotic). Most weren't too difficult, but Melotic required some tacical thought and Onix slowed me down a bit. And for some reason I had a hard time catching yesterdays daily pokemon Farfetch'd, took 7 or 8 tries even with 50%+ catch rates.

03/27/2015 10:37 PM ·Spoilers
My first (serious with boosts, not warm up run) attempt to catch Mewtwo has failed, tried this morning and had a 19% catch rate on my first ball and 38% with the great ball, I wasn't offered a second great ball. Well another 1.5 to 2 days of saving then I'll try again. Congrats on Charizard, it was one of the ones I most wanted to catch out of nostalgia, but I wish it was stronger in this game.
03/28/2015 12:52 AM ·Spoilers
I'm a casual player. It almost seems like if they just sold the game with unlimited plays it might be a bigger money maker. Truly 2.5 hours of self restraint between potential sessions.
03/28/2015 11:49 AM ·Spoilers
Got him, and only had a 19% capture rate. Lucky me. I now have every Pokemon in the game. Time to grind coins/levels in anticipation for the next event.
03/28/2015 10:41 PM ·Spoilers
My oversight has lifted my spirits! My 2nd attempt at Mewtwo was a bigger disaster than the first, (1%) and prompted me to examine my tactics to seek improvement. I lamented that my mega (sableye) did much less damage than the rest of my team, and wished another bug, dark or ghost type mega was released. Then I remembered my old nemisis Gengar, who I never caught! Doh! Well I'm eager for try 3!
03/28/2015 10:48 PM ·Spoilers
Congrats on 'catching them all'! The waiting in between actually works out nice for me. If I'm at work we have 12 hour shifts broken up by lunch and 2 coffee breaks, about 2.5 - 3 hours apart so I get a fresh batch each break! Also wondering how good mega Gengar's ability will turn out. It has potential but is different and won't break barriers well. I caught him first try today.
03/28/2015 11:53 PM ·Spoilers
MegaGengar is really not that great especially in timed stages. Mega effects is erasing every other mega gengar. MegaSableye actually does much more damage overall... :/

Seems like a mini reduce complexity, which could be powerful on a clear board, set up lots of chaining, but not if there are ice cubes everywhere gumming things up. Base 70 attack power is far better than 50 anyway, even 66 at level 8.
This comment contains spoilers.
03/29/2015 12:59 PM ·Spoilers
MegaGengar is great on some levels, but I don't like him on timed ones. Once Gengar evolves, I try not to purposely trigger him, and instead try to get as many on screen as possible. It can lead to massive points and combos. I used Sableeye on Mewtwo.
03/30/2015 8:52 AM ·Spoilers
Catching Rayquaza AND Mewtwo in the same play session! Now that is a good way to start your day! Gengar did it for me, figured I'd atleast try, did well while disruption delay was on, 25% on 1st ball 50% on great, 1st great caught. I shouldn't be surprised but found it a bit odd that Dragonite is stronger than Rayquaza.

If you had told me two months ago that I would spend 50 hours on a Match 3 game, I would have said you were crazy.
03/30/2015 11:56 PM ·Spoilers
Yeah, I'm upto 75 hours, hard to believe. Been trying to S rank or catch some I missed or skipped (EX). Making good progress Marek. So is Angela, she breezed through Mega Mawile (stage 90) on her 1st attempt with no boosts, then proceeded to beat and catch the next half dozen or so first try upto phanalpy (the stronger ground elephant) which she missed the catch on. Puts me to shame.
03/31/2015 12:11 AM ·Spoilers
Edit: upto Donphan, (stage 101) she started on 89 this morning after struggling with Keldeo, and Zapdos for a while without much success (beat Keldeo but no catch I suggested Zapdos might help but she only has 2 ground types and was struggling with it more) so she cleared 12 stages today on our trip. Sorry, I'm impressed I know you don't know her so 'shrug' but I just want to share and record.
04/01/2015 3:15 PM ·Spoilers
So I've got 11 main stages left to S rank, 4 Expert stages I haven't beaten yet and 5 Expert pokemon (aside from a bunch of others) not caught yet. Aside from saving coin and leveling up for future events, what objective should get priority? If I knew there was another Expert stage to unlock I'd work on S ranks but I've not heard of one so I guess working on those Ex stages. Wish Groudon was out.

POKEMON NEWS FLASH!! On April 8, a new Pokemon Rumble title for the 3ds will become available worldwide!! AND IT'S FREE TO PLAY!!!
04/01/2015 9:18 PM ·Spoilers
Interesting, I tried a demo for one of those once and it was ok but not stellar, still free is a good reason to give it a try at least.

Barry, I'd prioritize capturing Expert Pokemon. They are powerful.
04/02/2015 8:22 AM ·Spoilers
Yes I Really found Articuno, Zapdos and Lucario helpful earliy and those last four 17-20 (and 10) have the highest base hiting power in the game and useful types and sometimes abilities. The few I have left are ones that I was well covered in their types. But ya thats a good idea. Still can't believe of the 20 expert stages 5 Are Fire Types!

04/02/2015 8:33 AM ·Spoilers
Note: there are 18 types in total. The 20 Expert Stages include: 5 Fire types 3 Water and Electric types 2 from Grass and Dark And 1 Fighting, Fairy, Dragon, Psycic and Ice type. 0 from Normal, Poison, Ghost, Flying, Steel, Ground, Rock, or Bug.

04/02/2015 10:14 AM ·Spoilers
I don't think it has been released yet. Good chance it will be some sort of event like the Lucario one, although they might add more stages that could have one for it or maybe even a passcode distribution or something.
04/04/2015 10:59 AM ·Spoilers
That Weekend extra rich Meowth is so worth paying 800 coin for 5 more turns on! Today I did that and ran every pokemon I could find with the Quirky ability on my team to help encourage combos and set a new personal best of 5900 coin reward. It seems like it throughs out more coin 'disruption' every so many matches so combos are key. Pokemon that remove disruption are counter productive here.

Wow, Venasaur, Moltres, Dragonite and Charizard all in one morning! That Rocks! Congratulations. When blessings come they can sure surprise!
04/04/2015 12:55 PM ·Spoilers
Barry, great tip! I usually get around 3k coins. I'll try your method. Unfortunately already played the stage today so cant't try until tomorrow.
04/05/2015 2:38 AM ·Spoilers
Used this crew (all have Quirky or Quirky+) and scored 4500 on Meowth's level. Most coins to date. Thanks Barry.
04/05/2015 10:18 AM ·Spoilers
Yep, those are the ones I used, but I muffed it my next try, got very few combos and only 3000 coin reward. I still think the extra turns are worthwhile though.
04/05/2015 11:35 AM ·Spoilers
They were for me that last time. I kept track of how many earned those last turns. Earned 1600, cost 800.
04/05/2015 6:33 PM ·Spoilers
That seems to be the case, although the only place I've actually tested that was on timed stages for extra seconds, as opposed to extra turns. (I think it is the same for both though.) I'm down to 2 Ex stages left to catch, both fire type so no megas out now are super effective. Might spend some coin just to plow through, but I'll wait to see what this week's specials are first.
04/05/2015 10:16 PM ·Spoilers
If you buy the extra turns/time before a match, they do not add to your score or catchability. If you spend a gem after you've run out of moves/time, that /does/ count towards catchability/score. Never done it though. I just use gems for coins. Also, the only Pokemon game I ever played before this was Puzzle League on N64. Series never appealed to me.
04/06/2015 10:25 AM ·Spoilers
Competition number 2 is live, and guess what, it's for that water tyype mega I was waiting for. Well my first real attempt (using coin) put me in the top 1000 so that's a start, but I'll need to watch this. I expect this one will be much tighter competition as the top pokemon available aren't the hardest to get in the game. (Xerneas and Mewtwo last time) It should be more accessible.
04/06/2015 11:36 AM ·Spoilers
Yeah, I saw that I used the exact combination of all the Top 5 scores (last I checked), so that's good. I did one attempt and scored 13K+, and didn't use any coins. Last time my non-coin attempt high score would have been good enough to place in the top 20K, so I'm going to hold off and see how it goes. In the meantime I'll stockpile coins if I need them. Update: I only need to S-rank 1 more.
04/06/2015 11:41 AM ·Spoilers
Level 165. I have an A rating. I haven't tried it after capturing him though, and I'm pretty sure I used coins to do that. I read that it's a good strategy to bring Febas into that battle because that's who Milotic spawns. It's the only level where the spawned 'mon doesn't switch. Probably won't be as good as just using Disruption and Mega Evolve.
04/06/2015 11:47 AM ·Spoilers
I tried feebas once, but caught him with mega start for breaking ice and disruption delay. feebas does clear ice pretty well, but it takes turns and isn't big on damage. Not sure which strategy is better, but feebas is cheaper. I've got an A rating on that one too.
04/06/2015 12:09 PM ·Spoilers
Apparently using Febas (sorry if I spell all these wrong, I'm new to the Pokemanz) can create a lot of combos. I likely still need to purchase powerups to get that S rating.
04/06/2015 12:15 PM ·Spoilers
Eh, just tried the Feebas strategy. Not that great. I beat the level, but only with 1 turn left and got a B rating. After I know I'm in the clear for this week's event, I'll just spend coins and power through for an S rating.
04/06/2015 12:53 PM ·Spoilers
I noticed they changed their wording too so the jewel no long goes to all participants, but just those who don't win a mega stone, thus making it a kind of consolation prize. Well as long as they are clear about that I can't complain, but I do like free jewels, however they come. I'd still rather get the stone though.
04/06/2015 1:52 PM ·Spoilers
Yeah, I noticed that as well. I'm sure that was supposed to be what happened last time (and why those who qualified didn't get the jewel for several days after the competition ended). I'd rather get the stone, too.
04/07/2015 10:42 AM ·Spoilers
LoL! Yeah, apparently, I've lost my dramatic flair! I used to be involved in stage theater at several levels too, so sad. I've been on shift the last 4 nights, touching base when I could, not sure I caught everything going down at the Kabana and not sure I want to. (no offence Klim) Also unsure how to react so I didn't much, voicing what (minor) concerns I have at this time wouldn't be helpful.
04/07/2015 7:51 PM ·Spoilers
So According to a recent Play Nintendo Post the Mega Effect of Mega Blastoise will be to clear all the squares within 2 of the match. Fairly Powerful but hardly revolutionary as it is the same effect Mega Altaria has. Mega Lucario's effect was the same as mega lopunny's so they seem to be reusing alot, but the main draw is the typing in both cases and attack power more in Lucario's.

04/07/2015 7:55 PM ·Spoilers
Barry, I completely understand. I'm fine with people ignoring the BaconSlice that arises. It seems things are calming down. Anyway, no need to discuss it here! Yeah, the type is what's going to be most useful. This game has almost got me interested in checking out a regular Pokemon game. Almost.
04/07/2015 7:58 PM ·Spoilers
I actually don't like Lucario's mega because it doesn't set up for combos. I like the ones that take slices out of the field, because it can lead to huge combos. Ampharos is probably my favorite, but I like Sableeye's circle combo, Mawile diagonal, and Glalie's V. Gengar is also good if there are a lot in the playing field.
04/07/2015 8:02 PM ·Spoilers
Also, I should clarify. I only have S-ratings on all the regular levels. I still need like 11 Expert level S-ratings.
04/09/2015 10:47 AM ·Spoilers
Pokemon: Poor Attacking Types Normal types aren't super effective against anything. Dragon is only SE against other Dragon The following are only SE against 2 types Poison (vs grass and fairy) Psychic (vs fighting and poison) Electric (vs flying and water) Dark and Ghost (both vs psychic and ghost) (on positive side normal is only weak to fighting and electric is only weak to ground defensively)
04/09/2015 10:57 AM ·Spoilers
Speaking of fighting and ground types, they are the only types that are SE against 5 types. Ground (vs Steel, Electric, Rock, Fire, and Poison) Fighting (vs Normal, Steel, Rock, Ice and Dark) In Shuffle you don't need to worry about your guys taking damage so defensive weaknesses are less important. Also no dual types (common in the main games) combining resistances and weaknesses defensively.
04/09/2015 2:40 PM ·Spoilers
He is a pain, Angela just beat him today. She used, disruption delay, mega start and +5 extra turns, (which it turned out she didn't need but just to be safe) all of which is still cheaper than a complexity -1, but it is still some coin to be sure. Nothing wrong with mega sableye, for that one.
04/09/2015 10:11 PM ·Spoilers
Well I upgrade my score by almost 2k from just over 16.5k to just under 18.5, should be enough, but still watching and I think I could do better. Went up in the standings about the same amount too. I also discovered you get a jewel for 100 streetpass tags, (thanks to having another player in the house) neat bonus.

I stalled at Mega Glalie and it's broken my interest in playing. Even with mega start + disruption delay + 5 extra moves he beats me.
04/12/2015 10:54 PM ·Spoilers
Well, the competion is tougher this time for sure. Last competition this score would have been in the top 3000 I think. Over 200k participating with 2 hours to go. The other approached that too but I don't remember if it got there.
04/13/2015 6:43 AM ·Spoilers
Wow! I dropped over 1000 spots in that last 2 hours, barely finished top 7k this time. Also HUGE Update this morning. New main Stages again and also Groudon's Special stage finally arrived!
04/13/2015 11:21 AM ·Spoilers
I finished around rank 4000 in that competition. I also dropped around 2k in the last couple of hours. The update comes at a perfect time. I had just S ranked every main and expert level yesterday.
04/13/2015 10:19 PM ·Spoilers
With this update the only types lacking a released Mega are Grass, Fire, Ground, Bug, Flying, Fairy and Poison. I think there will shortly be competitions for Charizard and Venasaur that will cover Fire and Grass, but any thoughts on the others? Sizor for Bug, Maybe Tyranitaur? (they set up his pre-evolutions this update but as rock types) How about a special that changes its type as disruption?

I thought so too. Base attack 60 though, so far only Amparos, Gengar, Mewtwo and now Lucario have more. By the way have you noticed the giltch where when searching for Mega pokemon I have Mewtwo doesn't show up with the others even though I have and can use his mega. Never comes up on optimize either, it gives slowbro and I need to switch manually.

04/18/2015 1:21 AM ·Spoilers
No time to think on expert stages, just find matches as quick as possible, but normal stages there is no rush at all, plan moves as much as you like. Main stages don't suffer as bad from darkness clouds blocking your view as much either because with no time limit you can touch each square as if you were going to move it (but don't) to see what is under those clouds.
04/18/2015 2:46 AM ·Spoilers
Expert 21 is brutal. Smoke and blocks a'plenty, so Mega Aerodactyl is a must. I need to stock up on a ton of coins. -1 complexity a must to S rank it. @Beef It's so bad.

So I S ranked a few more stages and did a count, 19 more to do to unlock Genesect, and most of those are the 15 that gave me the most trouble and were left undone from my quest to unlock the Mewtwo expert stage. Sigh, well at least there is still something to work towards.
