    I actually recommend the three-pokemon-limit stages. It raises the chance of getting higher combos and gives you the ability to focus on a smaller roster.

    it seems to be based on matches so "Ampharos" (50 turns) and Lucario/Heatran EX (2:00 to make as many matches as you can) seem to be good. You can also use Meowth (stage 37) to grind coins and hes weak enough for practically anyone to train on as long as you bring a strong fighter with you to finish him off. Then you can use the coins to buy exp+ for the "grind stages" or save the coins for later.
