Seriously? I have to buy 9 amiibos to play everything in the game? Without an amiibo I can't play using the older (funner) gameplay rules? I have to buy extra dedicated amiibos just for this game, or erase data from other games? So to get everything, I need to spend an extra $125 CDN plus tax above the full price game, just for Mario Party? It isn't even as good as the old ones, even with amiibos.

  • I know it's a rip off, I have fox and Link, but they don't work!

  • You don't need every Amiibo. You can unlock these special Tokens you find on the Map that unlocks the other character's board.

  • If you have any SSB amiibo of the Mario characters(Mario, Luigi, Peach, etc) you can use them, it's more of a reward for those who bought those amiibos, rather than in incentive to buy them.

I stand corrected! I'm glad to hear that I only need one amiibo to unlock all the (hopefully) fun gameplay. Still, $14 to unlock everything, on top of a new $60 game is not cool, but much cooler than $125.

The reason I feel pressured to by an amiibo is because I don't like this new version and its game mechanics. Then I found out I can play using the old (fun) coin and star mechanics, but I had to buy an amiibo to use it.

I don't like having to buy an amiibo dedicated to each game, or erase the data. Instead of providing an obviously needed and rediculously cheap to implement amiibo data swapping program, Nintendo is hoping we will just buy a new one for each data storing game. I don't like "buy it or suffer data loss" marketing. In fact I hate it.

  • Lucky you! In Canada (in British Columbia), those are the prices and the federal and provincial tax is rediculous. It always works out more expensive than in the US, even taking the difference in our dollar's value into account.

  • As I said before it's a little reward for those who happened to buy a compatible Amiibo before, which is why that mode is a little lacking too, it's supposed to be a small bonus not a central piece of the game.

  • I think what bugs me is that I don't like the current gameplay. I liked the old board-game coin and star gameplay. I don't like having to buy an amiibo to get it. It seems less of a bonus, and more of a pay-to-play-it-the-fun-way feature, to me. Realistically, you're right, the amiibo gameplay isn't a major feature of the game.

  • Don't bother getting an amiibo for that mode because it's a waste, it's really lacking compared to the older boards.

  • U Dont Need 9 Amiibo All U Need Is The Mario Amiibo Party Just To Unlock The Amiibo
