    In the game, the gold Mario automatically gives the amiibo a golden base part that can turn the Mario golden. Other than that, it is just a regular Mario amiibo (in game).

    And by the base part, I mean token. The Golden Mario unlocks a gold token that can be used by that Mario and it turns the Mario gold like the figure
