    They add some things to your book. like the toad medals, given when you collect gems or beat all the levels. There just accomplishments in order to 100% the game.

    That's just the beginning...100% means there is no more you could do in the game you haven't already done. If there are 5 pizzas and you eat 100% of them...there are no more pizzas to eat. Similar here, time challenges are that extra thing to truly 100% the game. However the only thing the game supports is crowning every level.
