    You don't. My understanding is that gunlance is not like the gunner type weapons. It has shells but you can't switch them.

    Yeah thats right, you can change the type of shells you have depending on what gunlance you do and each have their strengths, normal excells at full bursts due to having the most shells, long type have shorter cooldown or stronger wyvernfire iirc, and wide are great for single shelling

    Bowguns are a weapon that take a lot a practice and knowledge to get good at since you'll have much lower defense compared to the melee weapons. Depending on why you tried out gunlances initially i encourage you to try the 1 star quests for other weapons to get a feel for what fits your style, try maining that weapon for a bit to see how it feels in longer hunts and then...

    see about branching out to other weapons once you get better at the combat in general so that at least you understand how to determine things like what armor skills you are looking for to complement each weapon.

    on bowguns to change shot type first you have to either buy or make ammo that your gun can load, which you can see by paging through the details. After that you hold L like you're cycling items and scroll through shot types with x or b
