    The artwork was a parody of Nintendo Power Issue #1's cover, which had a blue-colored Mario jumping on some mushrooms. It was based on Super Mario Bros. 2. The Link, however, was just based on the original Legend of Zelda artwork.

    @Zach it was a joke made last year, when the game still hadn't been released yet. Nintendo Power had just recently been canceled, and some guy thought it would be funny to make a "leak" of their mascot joining the battle.

    @Athziri Yeah, that was one of the key selling points that the leak was fake. Comparing the models in the screenshots to one of the real character models contains many large differences.
