    Balance updates make previous version replays unplayable. The last 3DS update that added sharing photos and videos also made previous version replays unplayable. Mewtwo's release will probably do the same thing. Photos are unaffected.

    Ah, I see why that happens though. Replays are actually a sequence of the actions performed in the actual match, not a video. So they can't replay things from the old software because some of the stuff in those replays have been patched and aren't in the new version. That is kinda annoying.

    Kinda wishing they could update so that replays will specify what version of the game is being used so changing mechanics doesn't delete them every time.

    This is a downside about not using video format for replays. However, an upside to using the sequence of actions was that when you paused a replay, you could get a shot from any angle you want as if you were in an actual match. Video format wouldn't let you do that.
