  • Tristan clearly has a thing against pro strats, so I did I run with an inward bike so that he couldn't accuse me of fire hopping. Oh, and no mushrooms were used in this run either. On top of that, we fire hop 'cause we know it's faster, not 'cause we suck, and this No-Mushroom No Fire Hopping run proves that.

  • And fire hopping aint pro. It's what newbies do. It's cheating.

  • I know you weren't directing it at me, but I just wanted to get my point out. I'll race no items, join the tourney, I'll be there :)

  • Oh, and it's not cheating, it's called building the metagame. And most people who are new to the game can barely stay on the course, so why would they bother with the advanced techniques? And it's not like it's hard to learn. Instead of complaining about it, you could just learn it as it's relatively easy.

  • Lemme put this in terms of another game, say Super Smash Bros. Series. In Melee, there was a very useful technique that was hard to learn to master but was extremely useful and could help you get the edge on opponents. It was called Wave Dashing. It was very useful and nobody considered it cheating, but rather an expert tactic. So why is Fire Hopping cheating then?

  • Here's another example, this time from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. There's a technique know by the community as DACUS, which stands for Dash Attack Cancel Up Smash. It allowed you to dash at the opponent while at the same time do an up-smash on them. This tactic was really useful, and once again, no one considered it cheating, but rather and expert technique and people felt it helped build the...

  • ...metagame, so once again, why is fire hopping cheating if these other tactics that have just as strong of an influence on their respective games aren't?

  • Well I just think it's a lazy tactic that wins races for you.

  • I respect your opinion, but that never stopped anybody from snaking in Mario Kart Double Dash and DS did it? You see my point? There isn't a point in complaining. If there's a tactic that helps people win, people are gonna use it. I honestly feel like people spend more time complaining about these tactics instead of just taking an extra few minutes to learn it and deal with it. That's my opinion

  • I've seen inward bikers beat fire hoppers before, and it happens more often than you think. Fire hopping isn't the sole deciding factor of winning races. Driving skill is a huge factor involved in winning, and if you can fire hop but don't know the course, I'm sorry, but you're not winning. And if you're playing with items, luck becomes a deciding factor of winning, so honestly, blindly saying

  • ...that fire hopping wins races is just really a blank statement. But that's just my opinion, you're entitled to yours.
