    You can destroy the horn and the sides will get chipped.

    You can't completely destroy the skull. In Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, there was another crab monster named Shogun Ceanataur (who is not in this game) whose shell could be completely destroyed, in which case it would start running away until it retrieved another shell.

    It can only be chipped. But least now it can be broken by ANY wep. On the older gens those large crabs shells could only be broken with a hammer, much like teostra horns with dragon element and rajang tail with ice element. Now any monster parts can be broken with anything.
