Complexity -1 removes one Pokémon from the Puzzle. In a Stage where no Pokémon are added, the Pokémon in your last Support slot will be removed (essentially making it a 3-Pokémon Stage). If the Stage adds a Pokémon (Taillow, Mega Blastoise), the Pokémon it adds will be removed. You can view the description for any item by tapping the "?" next to it.

Not having as diverse a selection of Pokémon means that the chances of making matches are higher. However, I really don't recommend it unless it's to remove a non-Support Pokémon.
