    thaey already said that making the game free range opened up more options than they expected, so rather than focusing on releasing an awesome Legend of Zelda game on time, they decided to release the best Legend of Zelda game ever at a later time

    The map is HUGE. It is probably bigger than the maps of games like the Elder scrolls. And with any big game comes many glitches. They delayed it to work out all the bugs in time for the release. Nintendo likes to make their games as perfect as they can before they release them.
