Question

Are all Melee fans Melee Elitist?

This really bothers me...All Melee fans do is preach the game like it's a holy grail and a superior smash game in the history of mankind, and they treat other smash games like absolute garbage -_- Thus people call them...Melee Elitist. I don't hate Melee. I love all smash games (maybe except Brawl) Are Melee fans like this?

@Fito: I don't blame you :p If Melee is your first ever smash and you don't treat it like that, then you are not a Melee Elitist -_^

The negative folk are the loudest, at which point it becomes easy to feel that such people represent a whole group of other people as far as mindset and behavior goes. But no, not all Melee players are like that, I'd even wager most of them aren't. But some of them get so consumed in their passion for the game, that they lose sight of other legit perspectives and become unable to accept them.

I love Melee as much as anyone, but I always hate to see the community create these unnecessary barriers based on which Smash games you like.

Because a lot of people are into competitive Smash (including myself) and Melee is VERY competitive and more simplified compared to Smash 4 because of it's low amount of characters.

Well my first Smash game is Melee, so it's natural to be an Melee enthusiast myself and I don't worship it like those guys. In my honest opinion, even Melee itself has it's flaws in gameplay, especially in competitive play.

Melee was my first Smash bros game and my current favorite right now, but unlike other Melee fans I like the other games too. P.S. why does everyone hate Brawl? I like that game too.

I love Melee and play it competitively, but I like Smash 4 more. Though I often joke "No Items, Fox Only, Final Destination." @★МκĎαςнεя★ Everyone hates Brawl for not being Melee, but instead being a filthy casual fest. And Meta Knight. And Tripping. Though slow compared to Melee and Smash 4, I did enjoy it as well. Though unlike Smash 4, I found Lucas tedious to play, but that's just me.

I imagine that the reason why competitive players hate casuals is because they do things that are banned or at least frowned upon in tournament play. (I.E.: Use items, play on "banned" stages like Fourside, play Coin mode, etc.) Some of the more advanced players may hate that casuals don't use elite 20XX techniques such as Wavedashing. But I need confirmation on that, as I'm not sure myself.

Ah yes wavedashing :/ that's another thing Melee Elitist worships it and so does Fox who is high tier in that game. Keep in mind im not calling every single Melee fan an Elitist. If you love Melee, great XD But don't preach it like it's a sacred game that needs to be worshipped religiously :/

Melee's great, but I have played better games in general. I never use the wavedash anyhow. Good thing 20XX will only affect Melee and not Smash 4. Hopefully.

I don’t even know what they mean by “casual.” I just like Melee because it has most of my favorite stages, (Fourside and Mushroom Kingdom II) the goofy AI, adventure mode, CPU Luigi’s recovery, Roy’s self-destructs, and directional air-dodging. I’m awful at wavedashing so I never use it.

Also I used Ness and beat Level 9 Foxes, on Final destination, with no items. I havd no problems with Brawl (maybe except the random tripping) and Lucas is fun to USE.

Oh and I like directional air-dodging because if I get stuck between the skyscrapers in Fourside I can up-dodge to recover.

Casual hate? Eh, it's a bit more complicated than that. It's really the same thing as I wrote here, people losing sight of other perspectives and being unable to accept them. Casual players being unable to accept that people can enjoy a competitive ruleset and competitive players being unable to accept that people can enjoy a casual ruleset. (And sometimes a false sense of superiority mixed in).
