I forgot to mention no female option, no slots in item bag/limited items you can carry in item bag, and as I recall no dual types. Man, Gen 1 was hardcore! :O

Oh yeah, no shinies and no megas. Wow, Gen 2 did a lot for the series. Really helped make the series what it is today with later Gens taking things a step further.

I knew about Pidgey being Normal/Flying but I guess I forgot there were a few dual types in Gen 1. Guess it's because in was Gen 2 that really emphasised dual types.

Not to mention no breeding so it was tougher to get certain Pokémon like the starters without sacrficing them to others. Fewer moves which limits some Pokémon and the type of the move determines werever it was Special or Attack. That limit a lot of Pokémon who didn't have the ideal stats (like Gyarados not so good Special compaired to Attack when it is a Water type).

And no breeding obviously means no egg moves that could improve Pokémon. No abilities either. Special Attack and Special Defense awere merged into Special stats (for better and worse). No Hold items. The only Pokémon that have determined genders were the Nidoran pair and their evolutions.

Yeah. Gen 1 was basically the blueprint and Gen 2 the building materials. Gen 3 and onward build on from that.
