Xenoblade Chronicles X2's plot: Eleonora is plotting to take over New Los Angeles with her army of Yelv clones. L helps out because he was promised the entirety of the Lifehold Archives and the "thirst for knowledge" he describes is literal: If he doesn't continually learn things, he will die. Tatsu saves the day because he has to do something eventually, and Lao doesn't appear at all.
