As it turns out, I was wrong about the Chimeroid Slayer augments being totally useless outside of Story Chapter 12: There's a tyrant Chimera called Lugalbanda, the Wanderer-King that appears in the aftergame. Since you're forced to fight it on foot due to Skells not being able to access its location (the Vitriol Cesspool), Chimeroid Slayer augments might come in handy.
