Greeting taunt rules.

Can people just stop attacking others during greeting taunts, I run into these try hards who will always attack during a greeting taunt no matter how many matchs you have with them. You don't have to taunt back, but don't be that guy and take a cheep shot, have some respect people. :T

  • So apparently you can't be competitive and still be friendly towards others. This is part of why I h8 the Smash fanbase, you're either on one side or the other with no middle ground.

  • Actually... if you look at the number of people who DO taunt greet or act respectful towards it, I would say there is a middleground.

  • No you can't

  • Greet taunt first, or off with your ego-maniac head.

  • Oh, so no taunt means you're being unfriendly and have an ego? Please... If you are getting sick of getting attacked while taunting, then stop taunting. If it's not a risk your willing to take, don't take it. You really don't need to taunt at the start to not be a jerk. Don't pretend otherwise. I'd honestly just rather get on with the match and into the action.

  • Like I said in the post, you don't have to taunt back, just don't attack when I'm just trying to be friendly, but apparently people can't even give two seconds.

  • Omg, you don't have to taunt back.. JUST WAIT TWO SECONDS, THATS ALL WE ASK!!!!!!!!!! It's not like you guys have anything better to do, anyway.

  • I'm not talking about taunting back. I mean your need to taunt at the start to supposedly 'be friendly' or something. It's really not necessary, and nobody is obliged to follow the made up rules that you attach to it. Complaining that people don't actually follow said 'rules' is honestly just childish. There is no reason you 'must' taunt. If you want to taunt, then accept the risk.

  • Sometimes, there's honor before reason. So stop getting so worked up over taunt greeting.

  • While it's not a actual rule nor does anyone actually have to follow it, it would be nice if they at least tried to be nice back and not immediately quit after they've lost. There are too many people who don't have the slighted bit of respect for others and that's all I'm really asking for.

  • That, at least, is something I can sympathize with. Not everyone online is a good sport...

  • There are people who will greeting taunt back or even back off once they see you taunt and I feel like those people have a bit more respect towards others then people who see you taunt but always immediately go for a dash attack or (if the character is fast enough) go for a grab.

  • So it's my fault if you are taunting and I use Falco and shoot immediately after the "GO!"? Even if I don't know you're going taunt?

  • If you do it the first time and you didn't know it's fine, but if you know full well the second or third time that I'm gonna greeting taunt and you still go full on attack, you kinda look like a try hard. I had some nice people who didn't know I would taunt the first time would let me hit them back just to keep it even.

  • So I have to change my all time strategy to wait for you to end your taunt? even when I do that shot without thinking (seriously it just come out every time I hear GO! xD) lol the last thing of making things even that's like when people SD because you SD by accident, why do that? xD

  • You seem like one of those kinds of players that takes things way too seriously and only has fun from winning.

  • I have fun playing smash and I don't share your opinion about taunting to greet, greetings comes on the selection screen, there's when you first meet your opponent si "HI" or something, taunting for greeting is an open welcome to get hit, if you get hit because taunting then stop doing it and start greeting your opponent on the selection screen. See I solved your problem!

  • But there is one downside to greeting by tags. Not every person understands english. Every person knows what taunt is however. And yeah, mindlessly starting a battle with an action is also my thing. For example, I immediately charge up Thunder with Robin. Another thing. Some people can interpret that taunt as 'Going to rek ya n00b' or something. And yeah, not every person is good sport.

  • I've never seen anyone using name-tagging to greet others. It's only used post-battle, often to hurl insults.
