Stance on Corrin?

Apparently Corrin is still a hot topic here, so while he is, what's your stance on him? Personally, I don't think he was the smartest choice. It'd be nice if we got a character I could've at least tried to know before he was announced, but whatever. Even if their were smarter choices, Sakurai gave us the smartest choice he's willing to give us.

  • Many people are still quite salty, that Corrin was put into the game just to advertise the new Fire Emblem game, instead of someone they voted for.

  • M, but there can only be gunners, brawlers and swordfighters. We've gotten… 3 Swordsman (1 uses a chainsaw sword and dragon fangs) 2 Hybrids of Brawlers/Projectile users 1 Gunner 1 Brawler

  • There can only be gunners, brawlers, and swordfighters? Spears, lances, hammers, shovels, tomes, and a whole bunch of other weapons would like to have a word with you.

  • There's a difference between swordfighters and swordsman. Those all count as a swordfighters since they're defined as any wielded weapon user in smash That would also make any projectile based fighter a gunner Brawlers are just physical attackers

  • I'm going by how Sakurai based the fighter classes in smash. The main classes that all moves rely on are sword, gun, and brawl. Say we have Shovel Knight, would that open a class for shovel? No, the shovel BLADE is an abbreviation of a sword

  • I think that's a foolish way to look at it. A hammer, is clearly not a sword or a fist. A lance, while you can also jab with a sword, is not a sword. Sakurai never officially made these classes, these are just what he made for Mii fighters. Just my opinion though. Do what you want but your gonna look ridiculous calling Shovel Knight a sword character.

  • I wouldn't look ridiculous if a called him a swordfighter. A wielding weapon isn't diverse enough to have a separate class that differs from swordfighters. The only one plausible enough is likely the staff. Everything else is just an alternative take of a swordfighter as they use moves like a weapon wielder. Like i said, every fighter in this game wields a weapon, physical attack or projectiles

  • Things like axes and bats wouldn't be diverse enough for a separate class because they all do the same thing. And yes, Sakurai based Mii fighters and their names from how ALL fighters fight in this game. They don't need a sword as the wielded weapon to be a swordfighter, that was clear when Miis had bats as "swords" Calling Corrin a new class for chainsaw swordsman is what would be ridiculous

  • Wouldn't it be easier just to agree that there are sub-classes instead? I mean King Dedede uses a hammer and is basically mix between a Brawler, for having powerful attacks, and sword user for having a melee weapon. Bowser Jr. also doesn't fit neatly into any one category, as his Koopa Clown Car is like a swiss-army type weapon!

  • Learn to use axes and swords and tell me there aren't significant changes. Yeah some weapons, like bats, staffs, and lances can be used as sword substitutes, but to say every single weapon that slightly resembles a sword is a sword is nonsensical, they all require a different style, the sword being the most versatile, but it doesn't mean it is automatically every weapon ever.

  • I know that there are clear differences between them, I just think that are some slight similarities between sword users and a hammer user in that they both use melee weapons, that's all.

  • I just think it's foolish to list off characters as a specific class or even a sub class like Captain recommended. They all have a uniquness to them, even if some are weapons haveva similarity in effect, such as Robin's Thunder and Samus' charge Shot, they are still different in many ways. Listing them all off under these three basic classes just seems stupid to me. (last post)

  • That also doesn't mean Sakurai is going to make a class out of every single type of fighting style. IN TERMS OF SMASH, they all count as swordfighters, which are different from swordsman. Hybrids are possible

  • Not a fan of Corrin's inclusion and likely won't be buying him/her.

  • From a technical perspective, Dedede's hammer has a disjointed hitbox, just like all swords and other melee weapons have. But sorting the entire roster into three categories won't cut it either, considering that many of the fighters play very unorthodox compared to the Miis.

  • Like Ness and Lucas? If you carefully analyzed the movesets, each move is either a slash (or whack) physical, or gunned/projectile, thus putting each character into the 3 categories. Let's be clear, it isn't necessary to use a sword to be a swordfighter, same with gunners and projectiles. Ness & Lucas would count as projectile users (falling in gunner category) with a hybrid of brawlers

  • I think I see your point now, but you shound consider changing sword category to weapon category, cause your still gonna look ridiculous calling Shovel Knight a sword user. And I still think it's fine if people are getting bored of all the swords in Smash, because even if all the weapos have similar use, that doesn't it can't get boring having the sword being the only one being used.

  • Like Wario, Peach, Kirby or Villager. Thing is, the "Brawler" moniker could be applied to roughly 70% of the roster, but considering that you can easily put Captain Falcon (traditional brawler), Jigglypuff (lightweight trickster) and Donkey Kong (heavyweight) in this category despite how vastly different they function makes this sorting highly inefficient.

  • Also, I wouldn't even define Bayonetta as a "Gunner" type character, as she's clearly more geared towards aerial combos. Her pistols only purpose is to rack up additional damage, kinda like Fox' blaster.
