What do you like in an RPG?

So Zendik is not really far in development, and I, the protagonist, want to ask you: what would you look for in an RPG, no answer is a bad answer, if I do say so myself. Literally answer anything you would correct about any RPG! Thanks for the support!

  • Do not do random encounters, have varying classes, give the player a fair amount of customization options while having a little bit of a limit, challenging, but fair boss fights, try to keep grinding to a minimum, good story and soundtrack, and add some lore and history to the world.

  • I'm to the point know where I am happy with a RPG if it doesnt follow cliches

  • Deep and complex character building. Stuff like final fantasy 8's junctioning system, bravley default's jobs and ff10's sphere grid is pretty appealing to me

  • Random encounters are fine, depending on the game, but having an option in the game to adjust how often random encounters happen is a good feature. They had it in Bravely Default. Fashion armor is great, where you can look like this outfit while getting stats from a different one. In Bravely Default, different jobs/classes were earned once you defeated bosses who were those jobs/classes.

  • It doesn't happen in a lot of RPGs, but weapons with history behind it are way cooler than random weapons you just get. Like I always love it if I get a weapon at one point that has story behind it and I can use it. Like Shulk's Monado, Link's Master Sword, any of the Fire Emblem character's weapons. Weapons/items with backstories are way cooler.

  • Make grinding integral only in postgame. The ability to see the foes, but they despawn and spawn, retaining randomness. Customizable yet fixed protagonists, i.e. hero can turn into a furry and back to human. Length.

  • 1. Good character designs and personality that make the player either really connect to them and like them or really hate them 2. good combat system (Kingdom Hearts fighting style is best, in my opinion) 3. great soundtrack

  • @Cole: I was more referring to Final Fantasy where enemies can appear at any time as long as you are moving. I honestly think the Mario RPG games do things the best by having enemies in the world that you can either fight or avoid. Random encounters just get annoying very quickly and can occur at really inopportune times, like before a boss fight where you will want to be at 100%.
