Why do people hate swordsman?

Note some characters fall into more then one category Projectile: 28 Brawler: 31 Swordsman: 12 Yet people still say there's too many swordsman.

    @FasterXBOX Just by the way, Bayonetta 1 was Licensed and Published by Sega and developed by Platinum. Bayonetta 2 was Sega Licensed, Nintendo Published and developed by Platinum.

    i blame SEGA for publishing her. if she never existed than none of this would ever happen! smash bros is 12+ bayonetta 1 & 2 is 16+ or 18+ will smash bros become a 16+ game? will the bayonetta dlc get children banned by their perants? i hope the beyonetta gets cancelled before her release...

    A lot of projectile and brawler characters use a wide variety of weapons and abilities, whereas a lot of the sword users put most of their priority into their blade, if not using it exclusively. I personally love swords, best idea since sliced bread, but I can understand why people think Smash might have to many.

    I don't think people look at the hole picture when it comes to swordsman. Link plays very differently from Marth who's different from Shulk who's different from Ike, Meta-Knight, Robin, Cloud ect.

    i dont know why ppl are complainig about them. especially cloud and corrin they are unique. also alot of ppl wanted layton. doesn't he use a sword? and why complain about there being to may f emblm chars or sword fighters in genral. it doesn't matter if they use a sword it matters how they use it.

    Anyway, what's the point in complaining? Those characters - swordfighters, brawlers or whatever - are in or will be there soon (Corrin & Bayonetta). Speaking of the last two, it's set in stone now.

    Swordsmen can play differently, but it'd still be nice to see a bit of variety in weapon use. I personally really wanna see a lance user or a certain shovel user.

    Granted, the Pits are debatable, as they are more known for wielding bows, though they use them as dual swords in close combat. If we break it down to the "purist" sword fighters, we get a total of 7 characters, namely Marth, Ike, Lucina, Meta-Knight, Shulk, Roy and Cloud.
