Shulk's visions are terrible?

Not the ones from cutscenes but the while in a fight, whenever his vision activates it shows what's going to happen, but after that it either already changed or I'm dead already, also when I do able to cancel it they still kill me with the same attacks, so what's the whole point with vision that I'm not getting here?

  • - Why visions may change on their own: Does the target of the attack change or does the attack itself change? If the target changes without you doing anything, it's probably due to aggro. Maybe your tank can't hold aggro properly, so the target constantly switches to other party members. Or maybe the target switched to your tank, because he used an arte that accumulates aggro.

  • If the monster's attack changed on its own, one of your party members dazed the monster, or put it to sleep. Those are the only status conditions that cause the monster to perform another attack, as far as I know.

  • - If you die during the vision: This is either due to to spike damage from the monster, damage from a previous damage over time effect, or due to the fact that you're fighting multiple monsters. The monster in the vision tag does not auto-attack or use other artes while the vision tag is showing. Other monsters can attack as they please.

  • - What's the point of visions: They give you time to save a failing battle. When someone targets you with an attack that will either kill you, leave you with low HP, or with low HP and a debuff, there's a high chance (but not always a 100% chance) that a vision will occur. This stops time for the monster in the vision tag, allowing you to heal up, or allowing your tank to build more aggro.

  • Don't forget that you can warn party members. You can for example warn Reyn, and tell him to use Hammer Beat, so that Reyn aggro increases. Every piece of the vision tag that breaks, increases tension for your party, which increases the chance on critical hits and your party's healing and damage output.

  • The best way to break pieces of the vision tag is by changing the arte the monster is casting (daze, sleep), forcing the enemy to switch targets, or by countering the move in the vision (Monado Speed vs red moves, Monado Shield vs white moves).

  • If you see a vision that says the enemy is gonna kill you, just use Light Heal or get Sharla to use Heal Blast by warning her. It's pretty rare that an enemy can kill you with one Art if your HP is above half
