At first glance, the Chimeras you fight in the Lifehold Core in Xenoblade Chronicles X were created because Luxaar damaged the self-defense mechanism with his energy spheres. Given what the post-game cutscene shows, though, it's also possible that their creation was caused through an attempt to read genetic data that simply wasn't there.
