Sakurai didn't want Corrin at first, but then he saw that he'd be a good fighter.

How good characters are must matter more than franchise relevance. Otherwise we'd have more DK characters!

    I heard he said that it was his team that give him the idea of Corrin and but did not want to go with it at first because of already having 5 FE characters and then went with it anyway after looking at the moveset.

    Well to be honest after getting Roy they had 5 characters, he probably thought the series was perfect at 5 considering its not the highly sought out game franchise(ratings are good but not enough people going for it)

    @Will Only Donkey Kong is lower. Diddy Kong WAS top tier at one point... until the patch with Mewtwo arrived. Despite that, Diddy still is pretty good. (and still is pretty annoying)

    Remember, the majority people who base a roster based on franchise popularity, are also the ones who made ridiculous votes in the ballot that couldn't happen, like Banjo-Kazoiee, assist trophy characters, and the trolls. Honestly I'm glad Corrin made it in, because it shows series popularity won't necessarily get you in Smash, also he's a dragon, and dragons are cool.

    I think basing whether a character should be in the game on the viability of their moveset gives an unfair advantage to action/violence based franchises. The final roster would become repetitive and stale, (one of the complaints for having so many FE characters) making the overall game less fun and unique. One of Smash's main selling points is it's colorful and interesting roster.

    But they all carry swords, and if he really cared about franchise relevance, he wouldn't have changed his mind about Corrin JUST because he has a good moveset!

    Well, they have no permitted to give the character's speech during their trailer, and therefore, the roster seems a bit disgrace to look at.

    It wasn't just the moveset, it was also because he saw the fact that this character is part dragon alongside the fact that this is the main character for the new FE games(which he always adds a character into SSB to advertise the new games)

    Im just surprised about the SUDDEN hate on FE •2014 SmashLaunch-FE was at 4 reps. Roy fans pissed at having Lucy over Roy and demand their main's return •2015 June-Sakurai gave Roy back. Clone haters were salty. •From June-December NO HATE was on FE now because that ONE character (Corrin) was added, people say "Too many reps! Undeserving!" That escalated quickly!

    Not in FE case, every character was added to advertise their games that were either being released soon or have been out for a couple months. The FE characters have always been advertisements for their games BUT that doesn't mean we love them less than other characters. Love the character for their movesets, not their game origins.
