ESPN to broadcast Super Smash Bros. Events

ESPN has announced that they'll be expanding the list of games in its coverage of events, and what's more, this will include games from the always-popular Super Smash Bros. franchise. Although ESPN did not specify which games in the series they'd be covering, Melee and the recent iteration on Wii U are the likely contenders.

    I'm glad that ESPN is starting to branch out into the growing eSports scene. Popular eSports like League of Legends have had big following for years, as well as being rather profitable. I think that Nintendo going into the eSports scene is a great idea with games like Smash, Splatoon and maybe even Pokémon!

    The reason behind why any game that allows you to beat the snot out of the four grandmasters of gaming with Gigglypuff can be hated by anyone, let alone NINTENDO FANS who don't want the game they apparently like to be competitive, has always confused me infinitely.... It's not even just the competitive fighting scene, there are just a lot of... Different people out there. Personally, I'm hyped!

    @CodeRed the reason other FGC's hate Smash is because they don't think it's a "real" fighting game. Even though what can be considered a fighting game is subjective and we all have our own ideas for what a fighting game is.

    Neat, but imagine if main cable ESPN hosted this or at least a dedicated block. That would give these eSports scenes a HUGE ease of access! Welp, there's always Twitch. I remember back in the '00s, USA would air Halo 2 MLG (y'know, when they weren't a joke) Tournaments every week. My bro and I would always wake up to watch. Seeing that on TV was lucid.

    I miss tripping from Brawl in the Smash for WiiU. It was so funny and random to fight and then all of the sudden trip on your face xddd. But I like that they made it fast again. Brawl was so floaty.
