Why Extra Sonic characters can't join.

In an old interview, Sakurai said he only wanted one 3rd party character from each 3rd party game. Smash is about Nintendo characters and 3rd parties are guests.

    Apparently the interview's so ancient not even Google can find it. AFAIK, that "rule" was merely a suggestion by a GameFAQs member about how Smash "ought to" treat guest series. The REAL "3rd rule" was that the character carry significant VG-related history, preferably Nintendo-related.

    It should considering Sakurai/prodigy don't break the rules they make for the games. Be happy that Sonic is even in SSB as he is a guest character.

    @kage Most of those voters (myself among them) weren't even AWARE of the rule at the time because, like I just said, IT'S NOT AN OFFICIAL RULE. No, the ones hoping for exceptions were all the Goku/Shrek/John Cena/what-have-you nutcases.

    Its an official rule, people have chosen not to believe it as they didn't want their characters to be dismissed or other just think its not real BUT it is. Its Sakurais 3rd main rule(along with must have originated from a Video Game and must have made at least 1 appearance on a Nintendo game)

    @kage You even read what I just said? Plus, think about it: if the one-rep-per-guest-series rule were real, why wasn't it even HINTED at anywhere on the Ballot page? Why would they risk perfectly intelligent fans (an oxymoron?) wasting their vote like that? To swindle them for giggles? Please. It's a big, fat, bloated myth.

    @kage [hangs head, sighs] You screwed up the second rule, too. That's that both Sora/Sakurai and the guest character's current owner have to be fine with the character being in Smash.

    No thats rule 0, if they don't like them from the beginning then they don't need to bother with the rest of the rules. You my friend screwed rule number 2 up. They also didn't write down about the second rule and yet most people knew about it, just like most knew about rules 1 and 3. People were talking about them on miiverse so its hard to believe you didn't know

    Its alright that you didn't know and you got some of the rules screwed up but thats no reason to take your anger and frustrations out on anyone, accept that you made a mistake and remember it for the next time they do a SSB ballot(if they will ever do one again after all those joke votes)

    Smash Third-Party Character Rules 2016: 1. Must be from a video game. 2. Both companies must agree to let Sakurai use them. 3. The character must have an impact on gaming history. 4. Character can't be from a franchise already represented by another third-party character. 5. Character can be from a company already represented by another character.

    The only franchise I think could deserve another character in Smash is Street Fighter, that character being Chun-Li. Chun-Li aside from originating from the most iconic fighting game ever, is also pretty iconic herself, not on the scale of Ryu of course, but pretty darn iconic.

    @kage The REAL Rule 4: they have to translate well to Smash gameplay. And I wasn't even ACTIVE on Miiverse when I voted. Why would they "not bother" to state "that rule" on the Ballot page because "it's common to Miiversers"? That would be unfair to those not using Miiverse, and lazy. Why would they force one to hunt for the official rules at all? They'd have nothing to gain from such a scam.

    *GASP* OH NOES NOT THE DEAL WITH IT GLASSES! MY SOUND, SOUND LOGIC IS MELTING! Seriously, WHY WOULD SUCH A VITAL RULE BE MADE _LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE_ TO FIND IN AN _OFFICIAL_ CAPACITY, EVEN WITH SEARCH ENGINES?! Sora and Nintendo would have nothing to gain but lulz at fans' expense. The End.
