Amiibos and DLC

If I got the Mewtwo amiibo but not the DLC, do I automatically get Mewtwo, or do I have to get the DLC prior to the amiibo I have.

    the amiibo works normally whether you have the dlc or not but it doesn't unlock mewtwo.

    Amiibo will work without the DLC character BUT it will not unlock the character for you to play as. If you want to playa s Mewtwo you have to buy his DLC like everyone else.
