Y'know what's better than going out of your way to buy a GameCube adapter to use an outdated controller on a current console?

Going to Target, finding a shiny new Metal Mario themed controller that works as a Classic Controller but is shaped like a GameCube controller, and using that for other Wii U games that don't have GameCube controller support.

  • But you can use the Gamecube Adapter on PC which means you could mod any game to use a Gamecube controller and have comfort 24/7. as long as you have enough buttons

  • I'd be happy if i could get a Gamecube controller shaped like an arcade joystick and recreate the feel of an arcade fighter.

  • @Jared WHAT YOU CAN DO THAT @J-Der I can imagine that the controller's light weight could be a little odd, but the buttons are all fine so far.

  • I see those all the time at my nearest Gamestop. I've only used my Gamecube Adapter once, and I gave up immediately because my shield and grab buttons are mapped to Y and X on my 3DS and Gamepad

  • Know what's REALLY better? Nintendo remaking the controller to be based on Pro controllers. Same Controller + home button, sturdy buttons/joystick, pleased fans.

  • I actually really like the GameCube, but I just think getting the new controller is a better, more convenient thing to buy. Me liking a thing that Nintendo made recently is actually unusual. So no, I'm not a retro hater. I just have different opinions about different things. Life isn't just black and white; if I don't like the adapter, that doesn't mean I hate old Nintendo as a whole.

  • Forgot to add in my second paragraph. And I couldn't get used to the shoulder buttons on the GC Controller because I haven't used one for Smash in ages. The Gamecube is actually one of, if not my favorite game console I own. I've had my 64 before I was born, but Gamecube is where my childhood is at. I only played Mario games most of the time, aside from TTYD, Lego Star Wars, and Wallace and Gromm

  • -it. I also have Namco Museum, which I spend hours on most months. Dig Dug and Galaga HHHHHHHH. Of course I'm much more cultured in games nowadays (F-Zero, FE, Xenoblade, etc.). I used to think Fox was a ticked off movie director in Melee. "CUUUUUUTTTT!"

  • While expensive, the Pro Controller is also a good alternative. I like the responsive clicky buttons on the 3DS when I play Smash; Pro Controller has more of that feeling than my Gamepad does which sometimes actually helps my game.

  • I have the official adapter too (I have 4 GCN controllers and didn't want to waste them), and yes, you can get it to work on a PC. There's a computer firmware thing someone made for the official one or a switch on unofficial ones. Haven't tried it myself, but playing Minecraft with one sounds pretty interesting. Which begs the question; can Steve wavedash?

  • Those fight pads made by HORI work more efficiently for me imo. While the whole controller is similar to the GCN controller, the feel of the buttons are really great, improved upon almost. Trying out the other mario classic controller, definiely not for me lol

  • The real problem with the adapter is that it only works with Smash. For the life of me, I can't understand why it isn't compatible in Wii mode for games that support the GC controller. Otherwise I'd be all over that thing.

  • Is there any Bowser themed Gamecube controllers? I know I've seen Bowser themed Wii-remotes!
