Could Castlevania's Dracula be in Smash?

Recently I posed the question of whether or not Vader's apprentice Starkiller from Star Wars Force Unleashed could be in Smash because while he is from a movie based universe he was introduced in a game. Now I'm asking the same about Dracula from Castlevania. Drac existed long before video games (or video anything for that matter) came into being. Cont...

@Mark: True it is too soon to have a sequel, but there's no disregarding the possibility of Dracula appearing in future installments! :)

  • Guys he's not talking about adding Dracula as DLC for this game! He's asking if it's possible he can ever be added to the series because the original Dracula was a book character! I don't know if Konami got the rights to use the name Dracula; if they had to ask for the rights then that might put Sakurai off adding him.

  • On the other hand Sakurai could add Dracula because he's an iconic boss and a classic monster, if so he could add extra stuff to Dracula from Bram Stoker's original novel and not just go from the Castlevania version.

  • I'd prefer Simon Belmont.

  • Doubt It. Konami is Really Sinking Low Now and that's Why No Snake. So i'm Sorry but no.

  • It'd be more likely for Snake to return as a Konami rep rather than a Castlevania character becoming the rep. However, as others have said before me. Konami hasn't been playing nice in the video game industry recently. So I don't see us having a Konami rep again unless they change for the better.

  • I think they could it be like how Marvel have their own version of Thor Dracula is in the public domain so you can use public domain characters for anything i think.

  • Also Sakurai owns his own version of greek godds like Hades so that should be fine

  • Dracula is a punlic domain character however the specific moves he uses in castlevania are owned by konami (dracula did not originally appear in a video game but in a book, konami went on record saying it is the same dracula) hope that helps a little

  • @...: the previous Smash game had two guest fighters - Sonic and Snake.

  • As Akira said, Dracula is a public domain character. You could also argue that Castlevania's rendition of Dracula is an unique character that is merely based off the original Dracula. I think the same applies to both Medusa and Hades from Kid Icarus. That being said, if Castlevania would get some sort of representation in Smadh, Dracula could show up in one way or another.

  • Though I think it'd be more likely for him to become a stage boss or an assist trophy, as the playable Castlevania spot would go to Simon Belmont.

  • As for Starkiller (since that is a good question): I think the character has to originate from a video game franchise to be considered a video game character.

  • Well, Darth Vader, Yoda and Starkiller were in Soul Calibur4.

  • Pepperidge Farm remembers. (Sorry, couldn't resist) @Dr. Nope: Soulcalibur doesn't adhere to the same rules for its guest fighters than Smash does. Even before the Star Wars cameos in IV they had already Spawn (a comic book character) in the XBox version of Soul Calibur II.
