    1. Not many people voted for him. 2. He is already an assist trophy, so taking him out as an assist trophy and adding him as a playable character would take some work

    1. The non-Nintendo series are just guests; They're not entitled to multiple characters. This is Nintendo's party, after all. 2. If there WAS going to be a second Sonic character, it would be Tails anyway.

    In addition, there are rules for third party characters: - Only ONE character per third party series can be a fighter. - Only the most important character of that series can possibly become a fighter. In our case, Sonic took the place, and he's the only one who has both conditions true.
