  • I have not played any Lunar games so I can't really answer your question. However this game has a unique charm that you don't see in RPGs nowadays.

  • I highly recommend not bothering with this game its terribly designed bland story and has some extremely questionable game design music is nice though

  • I love those old Lunar games. They were really ahead of their time. Pier Solar feels more like an older RPG by comparison. The combat is not as exciting and bosses can be tough so prepare for level grinding. You can turn off enemy encounters when you want to walk back to town however. The dialog in Pier Solar isn't as funny as in Lunar either (those GameArts games are really hard to top).

  • It does have its moments tho, and people have multiple things to say if you keep talking to them like in Lunar (but they don't update as often). There are some minor things that make it feel older than Lunar too such as not being able to move diagonally. You also don't walk on the world map, it's more like Shining in the Darkness where you jump from one point of interest to the next.

  • Honestly, I've had more fun with other indie RPGs like Citizens of Earth and Costume Quest. The thing that's really cool about Pier Solar was the novelty of selling it as a physical Genesis cartridge a few years back. In my opinion that's the preferred way to buy this game. But it's still nice to have the option of playing the digital version on the Wii U if you don't have a Genesis.
