I consider myself quite knowledgeable when it comes to the Roy matchup. Ask me anything!

  • Nice job! You knew the exact answer I was looking for since I secondary Roy. Roy definitely does not have a lot of safe options on Cloud since his frame data and range are very good against Roy. In my opinion, the MU is about 60-40 in Cloud's favor. If you were to get Cloud offstage without limit, then if he recovers low, you can dtilt to push him further away, or if he recovers high, then u know.

  • What Roy wants against Ike is grabs. Roy's main playstyle is defensive, but can react to the opponents mistakes quickly. This is a prominent factor against Ike, if he ends up with a mis-timed arial, you can dash in and grab, nair, dash attack, or even up smash. If you get tossed off stage, try to recover low, and Ike won't be able to do much. Use counter wisely, dont spam it, use it when.....

  • Roy vs Link is about 45-65 in Link's favor. As Roy, you will be doing a lot of jumping to get over projectiles. You realy don't want to get grabbed, or hit with an up-tilt, Roy is a fast-faller, so combos like Up-tilt, Up-tilt to Up-smash will connect at low-mid percents. As Roy, you want to be careful with your recovery, as link has a great edgegaurd agains characters like Roy...

  • If a Cloud recovers high, you could counter for that downward up b which would finish him. Either way, Cloud is done for.

  • What you say is definitely true, and a good Link player can always do a lot with Bombs. Also Gale Guarding Roy is possible and effective. But Roy can still juggle Link pretty well because of his weight and speed. Regardless though, Link's sword is bigger, so...I guess it's just a matter of how fast Roy can maneuver around Link.

  • Okay then, Roy v Kirby?

  • Any advice for the Roy vs. Pit MU?

  • I completely agree with that. If Roy can pressure Link hard, like Shiek hard, then the matchup can easily turn in Roy's favor, as Link doesn't have a very reliable "Get off me" tool.

  • Kirby is one of Roy's worst matchups, being able to Up-tilt combo him starting at 0 percent and ending at around 40-60 percent. If you want to have a chance, keep away, keep in the air horizontal from Kirby to avoid dairs, and don't get grabbed. Roy has an excellent punish game, being able to get small, 2-3 ht combos at a time, all you need is a kill. Kirby is very light, so raw F-smash at 60%ish.

  • Roy vs Pit. Roy, of course, needs to avoid grabs at lowish percents. Attacks like nair or Up-smash will connect out of D-throw gaurenteed. At mid-high percets, DI is important, mix it up. DI away until they're onto you, and then switch. You get what I mean. Killing shouldn't be too hard, D-smash out of shield or nair as an edgegaurding tool are quite reliable. What I said works vs Dark Pit as well

  • Basically exactly what a Kirby main wants to avoid, because sweetspotted, that F-Smash is scary. On one note, and I make this point with all characters with meh recovery (sadly, Roy is included), edgeguarding him is the main way to go for KOs.

  • Myself personally, I am a Mewtwo main, but I also love to play as Roy from time to time. Whenever it was a Roy vs. Mewtwo match, it always seems as if Mewtwo has a solid edge due to air mobility, making it hard for Roy to come at me.

  • I think Roy has the actual advantage vs Mewtwo. Being able to kill very early, having a rediculous F-smash and a weird Up-smash, Roy also has great air mobility. I'm not sure if you were playing any very experienced Roys, (there are like 3 on For Glory including me) but honestly, if you lose your second jump on-stage, an experienced Roy could juggle you and punish an unsafe landing option.

  • Easily resulting in 20-60% taken, or even a kill.
