How to make music?

I've been hearing of people remixing music using "soundfonts" or something. What is it and how do I do it?

  • First you have to get a program, if you want to make chiptunes and 8bit, I recommend PixxiTracker, If you want something more advances you should go for FL studio, but if you don't want to pay, you can get SunVox or the free version of Reason. A soundfont is the synthetic instruments that are used in your song, for expample, everyone knows the Sega Genesis soundfont.

  • You should just play around with the tools for a bit, maybe even a YouTube tutorial can help. But to compose a song, you do; Think of a melody or a beat, then go to your program or a piano and develop the song. Once that's ready on your program, put down a beat you like or make one and start working the melody from there with the instruments you find appropriate, and so on...

  • Thanks! I might make a SNES remix of some Undertale songs. Do you know any good places to get a SNES soundfont?

  • The 16 bit version might work, but you'll need either time or experience to make it sound like a SNES song. For that I recommend SunVox SunVox, Pixitracker (PC) and Reason are free. I don't know where you could get a SNES sound font, sorry but it shouldn't take long to find on the web

  • By the instruments section I assumed you meant in the folder, and there a bunch of instruments in there like winds, various, strings, etc.

  • Thanks for your help, but this is all too confusing for me. I can't find anything. I'll just go back to playing garry's mod.
